Getting Started

We Help You Get Started with Confidence

WELCOME! First...drop ALL expectations/ Yoga is a great way to move your body in ways that are different than what we typically do day to day. We fully expect you to come to your first class not knowing what to do. We understand walking through the door on your first day is a challenge all on it's own! We are sensitive to the anxiety that may surround new students and make every effort to help you become a confident yogi. Check the etiquette page to help answer any first-timer questions you may have.

Yoga is also an incredibly inclusive practice. Alter the instructor of any injuries or issues that tiy feel may "get in your way". We modify the yoga poses we teach to accommodate the needs of absolutely any individual, including those who are fit, those who are overweight and those who are working with injuries or disabilities. Of course, before you can become proficient in yoga you have to learn how to get started.

Start with the Basics

We offer many different styles of yoga and movement classes. We HIGHLY encourage reading the title and description of each class prior to registered for it. Yoga for beginners can help you to manage stress and get in shape while you learn and grow.  For beginners, we suggest starting with the Basic, Gentle, Restorative, Yin, and even Core yoga classes and then progressing from there as you feel comfortable.  You could also schedule a Private Yoga Session or two before you jump into the class setting.

At any intensity level, yoga delivers certain benefits, including benefits to your mental and physical health. Yoga can help you tone muscle and lose weight while encouraging great stress management and meditation.

Don't let your first yoga class intimidate you. To get started all you need is:

  • Yoga Mat
  • Comfortable clothes that allow you to move and flex freely
  • Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated
  • Positive attitude & an open mind

If you are taking our heated power/core/vinyasa yoga classes, add a hand towel to this list. Make sure you are well hydrated before you come to class. Expect to sweat a lot in the power/core/vinyasa yoga classes!  Yoga mats will become slippery when wet, so we suggest using the large beach towels, or yogitoes towels for these yoga classes.

When you take your first yoga class, you may not know all of the poses. There is no need to study before you see us for the first time in order to feel comfortable at the front of the class. If you're not ready to take center stage, just set up your mat in the middle or back of the room and keep an eye on the other students in the class. By watching fellow yogis, you can know what each of the poses are as you transition into them. Our helpful instructors will also assist you as needed.

Yoga is an inviting, meditational and even spiritual experience that can help you get in shape and tone muscles. Don't let yourself feel too intimidated by any preconceived notions about the practice.
